2021Photographer of the Year (POTY 1) competition 2021
Thursday 4th March 2021 was Round 1 of our Photographer of the year competition. We are still on Zoom so no prints but we have extended the digitals to 8 images 4 colour and 4 monochromes. The judge was Alfred Brown of South Manchester.
The colour section was won by Ian Greenhalgh with an image called “Autumn Stroll” scoring 20 points. There were a number of 19’s scored City Of Wells Approaching Summerseat Station by Steven Birds, Day dreaming by Alan Andrew, Hail in the Dales by Paul Adams, Ready for my close up by Heather Birds and Tree at Winskill Stones by Steve Riley.
The monochrome section was won by Andrew Kay with “Crown Engine Houses at Botallack” runners up were Penelope Pitstop visits Oulton Park and Perch Rock Lighthouse by Stephen Birds and another Perch Rock image by Ian Greenhalgh who also had aanother 19 with Winter Steam East Lancs Railway. You can see these high scoring images in the Gallery. Congratulations to all who took part.

2021Oldham Camera Club starting a new year
As you will have seen if you have had a look at our 2021 syllabus , Oldham Camera Club has started the year with a full, new and interesting syllabus. Although we are meeting via Zoom, it is working very well and our events have been enjoyed by all.
On 4th February, we had our first ever interclub battle against one of the best camera clubs in the region, South Manchester Camera Club, a very big club with some good photographers. The format was over zoom with each club submitting 15 images in digital format. The judge was Rob Hockney, a much respected photographer and one of the top judges. Rob was very complementary about the overall standard of the images submitted and the result was very close. We were very pleased to gain a draw with the result being 260 points each. A return match is planned later in the year.
Oldham Camera Club’s Alan Andrew was our star of the evening. He had a fantastic night with the winning image “Waiting for trouble” and two second place images “Geisha Girl” and “George and the dragon – shown below.
